My Story

Stephen and his two sisters were left in the care of his father after their mother abandoned the family. Their father would leave them for days at a time with no one to look after them, no food, no water, and no way to clean themselves. In the moments that Stephen's father would show up, it was suspected that he was abusing the children. Child protective services removed the three children and placed them in temporary care of their great grandmother. She did what she could but had no capability to care for three tiny children. Stephen and his sisters were taken to Chariots for Hope's Mahiga Children's Home to provide them with complete and dedicated care for nearly the first time in Stephen's life. Due to the abuse and abandonment, Stephen struggles to build bonds or relate to his peers. His Caregivers are working with him to provide emotional support through therapies for young children and gradual practices that will help him develop social skills to connect with others. Stephen has only known neglect and now in a safe and sustaining environment, he has the chance to grow and experience the childhood he should have always had.
