David's mother ran away from home at a young age to get married. She lived with his father for a few years and passed away just a few years later. His grandparents were very poor. His father had not paid her dowry, making the burial a heavy finanical burden. His father also ran away, leaving him alone. He was eventually taken to his grandparents' home but they could not afford basic care. He was in deperate need of stability and care and was rescued to Maai Mahiu Children's Home, where he is receiving the care he needs.
