My Story

Irene and two of her siblings were taken into Chariots care because it was found that they were being severely neglected. Their mother is a person with an intellectual disability, who was neglected and abused herself. She was taken advantage of many times, resulting in multiple births and a contraction of HIV. The severity of the situation was brought to the police and they jailed Irene's father, who also experiences a cognitive disability. The children's elderly grandmother tried to provide protection and care but she could not meet the great need of the children and their mother. Irene was then brought to the children's home to ensure safety, stability, access to proper care and education, and so that she may thrive overall. Since joining the home, Irene has bloomed into a very happy child. She enjoys her socializing in her play group, attending church and playing games with other little girls!
