Jane was brought up in a Christian home until her mother's cancer diagnosis, when it all fell apart. Her father couldn't handle the diagnosis and deserted the family, leaving her ailing mother to care for the children. Due to lack of money, Jane eventually had to leave school to help search for food or means to help support her six siblings. They would go days without eating. Jane suffers from severe trauma from the breakdown of her family, schooling, lack of food, and caring for her mother as she deteriorated. In the Chariots home, Jane is free to be a child again. She is enjoying returning to church and school, as well as receiving trauma counceling.
