Maai Mahiu, Kenya
Grade 2
Jane was brought up in a Christian household of six children, Jane being the last. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, her father couldn't bear the emotional burden and deserted the family. Going in and out of chemotherapy treatments, Jane's mother could not work a job and had no means to bring money in. The children were forced to leave school without tuition and eventually couldn't find regular money for food either. Jane would go days without food and would suffer, watching her mother's health deteriorate. Sometimes her aunt would be able to provide care and food for the children but it was not sustainable. Eventually, Jane was taken under Chariots care at the Maai Mahiu Children's Home. She now has a bed of her own, consistent meals, educational support to help her reach her peers, medical care, trauma support therapy, and opportunity to grow in Christ again through regular church and discipleship.
