Partner With Me - Kyle Watson

This summer, I have the opportunity to travel to Kenya on an 11-day mission trip as part of a medical team. This team will provide support and caregiver training in the areas of vision, hearing, and developmental screenings that will impact the health and well-being of ~900 vulnerable children, who reside at 8 different orphanages in Kenya.

Why this trip?

I have worked as a pediatric physical therapist for over 20 years, serving children and their families through my profession. In recent years, I have had a growing interest toward serving on a mission trip, and specifically a medically-focused trip. This trip will provide opportunities for me to work with and serve children and their caregivers throughout Kenya. 

As I have prepared for this trip, I have learned that there is a great need for vision-related services among underserved populations. My primary role on the team will focus on training staff and caregivers in vision assessment and provision of corrective lenses. In addition to screening tools, caregivers will be provided with an all-inclusive eyeglass kit that will allow trained staff to provide corrective lenses and frames within minutes to children who need them, on-site and without additional travel or wait time. In order to achieve this goal, I will undergo training in both the vision screening, as well as how to utilize the vision kit to provide corrective lenses for those that need them.

Secondly, please consider partnering with me financially. My personal trip costs are $3900. There will undoubtedly be other costs and fees along the way; including the cost for me to be trained in the use of the vision kit prior to our trip.
