Hi, family and friends!
I have very big news! This summer, I will be moving out of my comfort zone by taking a mission trip for 11 days in Kenya. I look forward to going to 3 orphanages through Chariots of Hope. As a part of a medical team, we will be training caregivers to provide vision, hearing, and developmental screenings to their 900 children across 8 orphanages. We will be spending time with the staff and learning how we can support them while we are there, along with continued support once we return home. Personally, I will be working closely on the vision aspect, teaching caregivers how to properly assess vision, and make lenses with U-See equipment.
As an occupational therapy graduate student with a strong interest in vision, I am looking forward to being part of a multidisciplinary medical team as we support and collaborate with caregivers in Kenya. The team is only taking two students, and I feel so grateful to be one of them. This experience will further shape my growth as a future practitioner and certainly affect my perspective in my day-to-day life.
I will be fundraising to cover the expense of travel for the mission. I will leave for Kenya on July 25th and return on August 5th. If you wish to support me on this exciting journey, it would be greatly appreciated (it is a tax write-off)! I am excited to share my experience with all of you when I return! Thank you!!!!
