Over the past 18 months I have had the opportunity to collaborate with Gwynedd Mercy University and the Ubuntu Life School in Kenya. We meet monthly to share our expertise in working with children with complex disabilities. We share knowledge, ideas, our love for our children, and our desire for them to have the same opportunities all children have. These meetings have been so inspiring to me in my own practice and I am excited to join the group in person this year!
The core philosophy of Ubuntu- “I am because we are” is at the root of this mission. The goal is to foster community, connection, and well-being through education.
In August, we will be traveling as a group of therapists, educators, and pre-professional students to share skills and knowledge through the Chariots for Hope Foundation. As with any mission, I expect to learn more than I am able to share.
My goal as a physical therapist has been to support kids with disabilities in full participation in their school and life. I am so excited to share what I have learned with the children in Kenya.
